Shared Care is a community respite scheme for people with a learning disability and their carers in Essex.
We arrange for volunteers to spend time with a person with a learning disability, giving them a chance to have new experiences, and giving their family or carer a much-needed break from their caring role.
If you can spare a few hours or a weekend each month or even a short holiday, you could become a volunteer and make a real difference. Our volunteers are men and women from a variety of age groups and with different home situations - whether married, with a family or living alone.
Having a morning to myself is wonderful! It's great to know that my son is in safe hands with someone who has become a real friend to Tim and my family. He has tried things that he doesn't do normally like bowling and he loves going to the beach with them and their dog.
