Mencap and personalisation

Mencap is defined by the individuals, families and carers we support.

What has always mattered to us is that individuals have choice and control over their lives and they are valued, listened to and included.

The current personalisation agenda reinforces that mission. Personalisation can be seen as a golden thread which runs through everything Mencap does, linking everything together. Its aspirations link clearly with our vision of achieving the right outcomes for each person with a learning disability. This is what Mencap is all about.

To help drive the personalisation agenda forward we are:

  • developing best practice in achieving individual outcomes and sharing this information with our local authority and voluntary sector partners.
  • ensuring Mencap encourages, embraces and campaigns for changes which improve the lives of people with a learning disability, their families and carers.
  • supporting individuals to achieve outcomes that matter to them. This could be a support worker taking the time to listen to an individual or support them in their workplace, or a payroll clerk ensuring they process timesheets promptly to enable extra support hours to be paid to staff.

The way Mencap delivers support allows us to ensure that quality is never compromised. We make sure all available resources are used to their maximum benefit - from housing to community support, education and leisure.

Our workforce is skilled and motivated, and we use innovative and creative tools to ensure individual outcomes can be achieved, with IT, finance and HR to support this.
